My Maxi chain is too tight or too loose

Correct chain tension is important, especially on bikes with coaster brakes, as the chain plays a role in braking performance. The right tension allows the chain to move about 1 cm up and down.

To adjust the chain, loosen the axle nuts on the rear wheel and gently pull the wheel backwards until the chain has the correct amount of movement. Keep the wheel centred in the dropouts and firmly retighten the axle nuts once the tension is right.

If you’re unsure or would prefer support, a local bike shop can help set the chain tension correctly.
